Instrumentals Quiz ================== From: "Steve Mc" Newsgroups: rec.music.rock-pop-r+b.1950s Subject: Instrumental Clips Quiz Results Message-ID: Date: Sun, 14 Mar 2004 13:13:50 GMT Thanks to the usuals for playing. This time, although two notables were missing (StillBill and Mark) we did have two new entrants, Bob E. and Divotgirl. Bob E. came in from the binaries group, and I'm not sure how Divotgirl got here. Out of a possible 64 points: 60 = Norm 59 = Marc 57 = Rick 43 = Divotgirl 42 = Cathy 19 = Bob Norm's 93.6% just missed his/the record of 94.4 %, and Marc's 92.2% is the highest non-Norm score ever. A late surge by Marc just eclipsed Rick and his always consistently high scores, and Cathy lost her #1 LCQ ranking by 1 point to the rookie Divotgirl. I think her bogie, (or is that boogie?) on #11 did Cathy in. Six songs were the easiest, gotten by all: #04 Sweet Georgia Brown #09 Miserlou #14 Red River Rock #19 Last Night #30 Walk Don't Run #32 Harlem Nocturn Next easiest, missed only once or just missed the artist, were: #01 Smokie (which had to suffice for my Elvis usuality) #02 Honky Tonk #03 Green Onions #06 Tequila #07 Topsy #10 Rebel Rouser #15 Apache #18 Memphis, #21 You Can't Sit Down #22 Ghost Riders In The Sky #25 Sleep Walk #29 Wipeout #31 Guitar Boogie Shuffle One clip did go completely unidentified, which I expected to be one of the more difficult clips, #24, The Rolling Stones' homage to the Chess Studio's address, "2120 South Michigan Ave," from the 12x5 album. I believe they also recorded it there. There were no singles this time, though there were two very close. Norm getting #27, Sonny Terry's "Hootin'," with Marc identifying the artist, and Marc getting #12, Freddie King's re-lettering of my home town "San-Ho-Zay," with Rick identifying the artist. Norm had his usual doubles with Rick on #05, "Holly Hop" and #08, "Crossties," and another with Marc on #28, "Clouds," by the Spacemen. Divotgirls birdie on #24, Paul Butterfield Blues Band's "Work Song," prevented Marc from getting a single on it. Thanks again to all for playing. Thanks also to Marc for posting the quiz on his website, and even archiving all the prior quizzes. And welcome to the new entrants. I hope you make the quizzes and this newsgroup a habit. As always, comments are appreciated. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ #01) Bill Black's Combo - Smokie pt 2 #02) Bill Doggett - Honky Tonk Pt 1 #03) Booker T & the MGs - Green Onions #04) Brother Bones & His Shadows - Sweet Georgia Brown #05) Buddy Holly - Holly Hop #06) Champs - Tequila #07) Cozy Cole - Topsy II #08) Dale Hawkins - Crossties #09) Dick Dale - Miserlou #10) Duane Eddy - Rebel Rouser #11) Ernie Freeman - Raunchy #12) Freddie King - San-Ho-Zay #13) Jimmy Forrest - Night Train #14) Johnny & The Hurricanes - Red River Rock #15) Jorgen Ingmann - Apache #16) Lee Allen - Walkin' With Mr. Lee #17) Little Walter - Juke #18) Lonnie Mack - Memphis #19) Mar-Keys - Last Night #20) Paul Butterfield.
